Federal and OWCP Doctors
Sometimes we are asked,"What is the difference between and federal doctor and an OWCP doctor?"
It is a confusing subject, but to answer the question, neither of them actually exist.
The federal government has doctors that it regularly uses for second opinion evaluations and referee appointments. Those are often referred to as OWCP doctors. They are actually in private practice and are not official employees of the federal government. They usually offer no treatment at all. They are generally hired repeatedly because they have some familiararity with the OWCP, and generally render opinions that the OWCP likes to see.
A federal doctor is often thought of as a patient friendly physician that understands the OWCP process. However, they did not specialize in federal workers compensation at medical school for a simple reason: that specialty doesn't exist.
So when you are reading our blogs, or visiting our website, don't be confused by the terminology regarding doctors. FedDoctor.com only finds patient friendly doctors who offers treatment and/or evaluations to federal employees because they want to provide quality care.
